THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ATTITUDE SCALE AIMED AT
MANAGING VOCATIONAL EDUCATION OF TRADE VOCATIONAL
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to develop a scale to expose trade vocational high school students’ attitudes towards managing vocational education. This research was carried out in three trade vocational high schools. Two of them were in the city centre of Balikesir while the other was from Edremit district. Students who took part in the study were asked to fill-in the five-point Likert scale to reflect their attitudes to managing vocational education. In the pilot phase of the study, dataset of 287 students was evaluated. Item analysis, factor analysis and the reliability coefficient calculations were done with this dataset in SPSS 12.0. Analyses were resulted with a refined attitude scale that contained 15 items about managing vocational education of trade vocational high school students. According to the analysis results, this attitude scale included 3 factors which were named as “satisfaction in vocational education”, “working environment” and “vocational education perspective of managing”.
